    In our Basics of Sewing class, young aspiring designers will embark on an exciting journey into the world of fashion and creativity! This hands-on program is perfect for beginners and introduces students to the fundamentals of sewing in a fun and supportive environment. Students will receive individualized and class instruction for fundamental skills to:
    • Use a sewing machine and learn basic hand stitching
    • Sew basic seams and finishes
    • Understand fabric anatomy, including fabric grain and its suitability for fashion designs
    Basics of Sewing sessions are 14 Weeks held every Thursday starting September 11, 2025 - December 18, 2025 from 4:00pm-5:30pm (1 make-up class is allowed).     Basics of Sewing is a 6 week course for Teens & Adults. Ready to get hands-on and learn the timeless skill of sewing? Whether you’re a teen eager to dive into the world of fashion or an adult who’s always wanted to master the art of creating your own clothes, this Basics of Sewing class is the perfect place to start! Fundamental skills and techniques will be covered including:
      • Overview of different types of sewing
      • Introduction to essential sewing tools and materials
      • Different types of fabrics and their characteristics (cotton, polyester, denim, etc.)
      • How to choose appropriate fabric for different projects
      • Threading a needle and tying knots
      • Basic stitches (running stitch, backstitch, whipstitch, etc.)
      • Introduction to the sewing machine (parts and functions)
      • Practice sewing straight lines and curves on scrap fabrics
      • Introduction to reading sewing patterns
      • Basic pattern alterations (lengthening, shortening, adjusting fit)
      • Proper use and handling of sewing tools and equipment
      • Safe practices when using sewing machines
